Meet the Artist Reception Sunday, June 14th 1 – 4 pm
City Lights Art Gallery, 3 E. Army Street, Henderson, NV presents the surprising and imaginative artwork of Steve Kilgour during the month of June.
Steve Kilgour is a self-taught artist who began painting in Northern California in the mid 1980’s. His primary medium of choice is oil paint on canvas using a palette knife. He originally started by copying paintings by Van Gogh and other impressionists whose use of bright colors fascinated him. Kilgour has recently broken out to paint more abstract works using drinking straws and wooden coffee stirrers. This has lead to painting wine barrels (current on display at the Las Vegas Distillery in Henderson) and chairs using the vivid colors of the French fauve movement founded in the early 1900’s.
Born in Manchester, England, Steve left to work overseas in the construction industry. He has lived in France, Belgium, Algeria, Egypt, Greece, Aruba and Costa Rica before settling in Las Vegas for the last 17 years. Travelling extensively for work and vacations has influenced his style as his paintings boast an international flavor. At this time, his artwork is hanging in Europe, Australia, the Caribbean and the U.S. Over 30 of his pieces were selected to decorate the high roller suites at the opening of the Paris Hotel.
In addition to his artwork on display at City Lights, he has had a one-man show at the Henderson Multi-Generational Center. His is an award recipient from the Las Vegas Art Show at the Sahara Library and has earned 3 honorable mentions in 2 shows at the City Lights Art Gallery.
